Although there were clouds in Lexington...western Nebraska had cleared out by the morning hours. The best instability for our chase area was in southwest South Dakota and northwest Nebraska while the best EHI values were in north central Nebraska. Since convection was expected to fire to the west we headed to Thedford to wait for convection to fire and head eastward. A few thunderstorms did get going but they were garden variety and offered a few photo ops and lightning shots as we headed south to North Platte. With our target area further east we decided to stay in Kearney Nebraska once again.

A very hot afternoon in north central Nebraska

Two developing cumulus clouds to the west of Mullen

A turkey tower to our northwest

Rain shafts to our west as we head for North Platte
